West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival

CMA is fortunate to have amongst its distinguished patrons the fabulous viola player, Lawrence Power. Lawrence attended the RGS and was taught in his A Level year by our own Tim Venvell in his first year of teaching at RGS, back in 1994! Lawrence decided six years ago to start a music festival in memory of his grandmother, and we are incredibly fortunate that this festival has really taken off, bringing top quality classical musicians to our area of South Bucks. This year’s festival is on Thursday, 13th September to Saturday, 15th September, bringing five interesting concert programmes to the Church of St. Lawrence, West Wycombe, (the church with the golden ball you can see going down the A40 out of Wycombe).

Tickets are £18-20 for the evening concerts and just £12 for the daytime concerts, and under 18s are FREE. Check out the programmes on the website www.westwycombechambermusic.org.uk/ and do go along and support the festival if you can – Lawrence normally says a few encouraging words about CMA in his concerts, so it would be lovely for there to be a significant CMA presence.

“It is difficult to praise this festival enough. Lawrence Power is simply one of the most charismatic musicians performing in the world today, and he gathers around him some of the very best musicians in Europe performing at this time – Vilde Frang is the latest addition to the list of stars Lawrence has persuaded to play, and recent years have seen Guy Johnston, Natalie Clein, (both BBC Young Musician winners in the past), Mark Padmore (most sought after tenor evangelist in recent years), Bjorg Lewis, Tom Aldren (also ex-RGS), Adrian Brendel, Anthony Marwood, Radio 3 Presenter Tom Service – and so the list goes on!!! We are so lucky to have this standard of music-making going on in our own back yard – you would normally have to travel to London or a major festival like Edinburgh or Cheltenham to hear this calibre of musician. Do get there if you can!!!” – Tim Venvell
